Anatomy Scan
We had our anatomy scan this morning, and it was a lot of fun! We let the tech know right away that we did NOT want to find out if Baby Ridge was a boy or a girl, and she made sure to let us know when to look away from the screen in case the baby flipped. She also made sure to hide the photos of that region when we went over the measurements so that we wouldn't accidentally see it that way! The sex is not written anywhere on any of our charts since it's completely medically irrelevant, so we don't have to worry about any of the midwives or nurses letting it slip. We're good to go... and so excited to find out if we have a son or a daughter in December!
When we first saw Baby Ridge, he/she was stretched out with one arm behind their head, almost as if they were lounging on a couch watching TV. Heart rate was a nice 154, and weight was estimated to be at 11 ounces. 2 arms, 2 legs, 2 hands, 2 feet, 10 fingers, 10 toes, 2 kidneys, 4 heart chambers, a bladder, a liver, intact stomach, complete skull, grade 1 placenta, and 3 vessel umbilical cord. Everything was basically as perfect as you can get it! ::big sigh of relief::
We also learned that Baby Ridge is hanging out reaaaaallly low, which is part of why I'm not showing at this point. They're also transverse (lying sideways) but there's plenty of time for them to flip to head down position. After being jostled around, Baby Ridge started sucking their thumb. He/She continued to put their thumb in, suck, take it out, and repeat. It was funny to watch. All I can say is... Baby Ridge better enjoy thumb sucking while they can....because the kibosh will be put on that in December!
And here's what most of you wanted to see.....I chose 2 from the batch that we were sent to share!

We have also decided that our friends and family who know are free to share it with the people they want to share it with at 24 weeks (the age of viability), which is Friday, August 19th. We respectfully ask that you do not share it on your Facebook wall or post anything on my (Lauren's) Facebook wall if you're a friend on Facebook. Once Baby Ridge is here safely, if you want to post something on your wall about it, we're fine with that!
