We went to the beach in Destin, Florida last week and had such a great time. It was wonderful and relaxing, and we enjoyed every second of just being the three of us. We'll definitely do this every year! I chose this beach because of the perfect weather in July (80's and breezy), the clear water, and the sugar sand. The sand there doesn't get super hot, so you can walk across it without flip flops. Super kid friendly. After our trip, it is safe to say that Lily loves sand (including eating it), the ocean, and being in water...she's a total water bug just like her mama. We didn't want her to become overtired, so the maximum time we had her out on the beach was 90 minutes. We spent an hour hanging out in the ocean one day. Most days we would alternate between 20 minutes in the ocean and 20 minutes under the umbrella, depending on Lily's mood. She definitely communicated when she was ready to move on! Ethan and I took turns on the beach during her naps, and we both got lots of time to read, and just chill. Our rental was right on the beach so it was super easy to walk back and forth. We'd head out when she woke up, after her first nap, and sometimes after her second nap. We also took advantage of an all-you-can-eat crab leg buffet, and Lily tore up the salad bar. We were all there for an hour and a half and she happily sat in her chair eating her veggies on a plate in front of her while we demolished several pounds of crab legs. The waitstaff was quite taken with her, and our waitress asked to hold her at the end of the meal. We don't have a problem with strangers holding her, and we both think it's really cool that she brings so much joy to others.
A few developments happened at the beach.... Lily started crawling! She crawls by pushing her left leg down and off, and has been doing it ever since. She can get herself down from a sitting position to crawl, but isn't pushing herself back up to sitting just yet. I'm just waiting for her to catch on that she can follow us around now, haha. She also started trying to pull to a stand. She can't quite do it yet, but she's pretty determined, so we're giving her lots of opportunities to do so on our living room furniture. Lastly....she started giving me kisses when I asked for one. Ethan asked her too, but she only gave him one. All her kisses are for her mama. Works for me.... they are open mouthed slobbery kisses, and I love them! We tried to catch it on video but she seems to know when the camera is on and refuses to do anything. We'll catch it one of these days!
